The Frye Art Museum opened a new retrospective exhibition last week of the works of Northwest artist Buster Simpson. For the opening gala, I designed arrangements using all locally, organically grown flowers…and vegetables. Roots have a strong significance for Simpson, and the event planners asked me if I could make some boutonnieres using root vegetables. Baby carrots and radishes came to mind first, and I was very happy to find just the right ones at my local farmers market–so cute! To the radishes I also added sprigs of lavender and astrantia.
