We are very lucky here in Seattle to have access to a virtually year-round supply of sustainably grown, local flowers. The Seattle Wholesale Growers Market brings organic farmers here in Washington, Oregon, and California together to provide our area with earth-friendly floral product, including not just cut flowers but also orchids and other live plants, succulents, bulbs, and much more. I’m always thrilled when I can say that the floral arrangements for a particular event are 100% sustainably sourced! For this recent wedding centerpiece design, I used all local product and also created it without using floral foam, which unfortunately is not recyclable and contains polluting chemicals. I and other concerned florists in my area have been increasingly using design techniques that do not require foam or use as little as possible. It’s sometimes a challenge, but a worthy one, and when the results are better for our planet, I think they are even more beautiful!
This design includes: Lilac, Narcissus, Ornithogalum, Tulip, Viburnum.
